A Court of Thorns and Roses (2015)⁠[11-15] begins the sequence with Feyre as a human huntress whose desperate act in the woods draws her across the border into Prythian. This novel introduces the Spring Court, the larger faerie realm, and the danger surrounding Tamlin’s court.⁠[3]

It also establishes the central mortal-faerie tensions and the bargains, loyalties, and transformations that later books depend on.⁠[3]

2. A Court of Mist and Fury

A Court of Mist and Fury (2016)⁠[16-20] continues Feyre’s story after the events Under the Mountain and follows the consequences of her new immortal life. Feyre’s powers, relationships, and obligations all grow out of the first book, making this novel a direct continuation.⁠[4]

3. A Court of Wings and Ruin

A Court of Wings and Ruin (2017)⁠[21-25] carries forward the conflict with Hybern and brings the courts of Prythian into a broader wartime sequence. Feyre’s position within the Night Court, the condition of her sisters, and the alliances formed in the previous book all shape this story.⁠[5]

This book features the culmination of the first major arc while leaving the world changed by the war.⁠[5]

4. A Court of Frost and Starlight

A Court of Frost and Starlight (2018)⁠[26-30] is a post-war book centered on recovery, rule, and the Winter Solstice in Velaris. It follows Feyre, Rhysand, and the Night Court as they address political instability, personal grief, and the rebuilding of the city.⁠[6]

Although quieter than the preceding war narrative, it bridges the aftermath of A Court of Wings and Ruin with the character-focused next novel.⁠[6]

5. A Court of Silver Flames

A Court of Silver Flames (2021)⁠[31-35] shifts the main focus to Nesta Archeron and Cassian while remaining rooted in the consequences of earlier books. Nesta’s forced transformation, the Night Court’s tensions, and renewed threats from human queens and ancient powers all depend on the established continuity.⁠[7]

This novel broadens the series by giving Nesta’s recovery and power a central role in the ongoing story.⁠[7]

6. A Court of Splintered Harmony

A Court of Splintered Harmony, which will be published on October 27, 2026,⁠[36-40] follows A Court of Silver Flames and begins a single story too large for one physical volume. It is described as the foundation of that multipart narrative, covering only its first part.⁠[8]

Because it starts a story that continues across multiple books, it should be read before A Court of Forgotten Melody.⁠[8]

7. A Court of Forgotten Melody
