STEMinist series
The STEMinist books may be read independently, though readers would get more context for the friends’ developing relationships by reading them in publication order.[1-3][9-17] Readers should start with Under One Roof, which introduces Mara’s romance and the friendship connecting the three books.[57-59]
STEMinist follows Mara, Sadie, and Hannah, three engineers whose graduate-school friendship continues across their separate careers and romances. Each of the three main books centers on a different couple and tells a self-contained relationship story, with the other friends appearing in supporting roles. The publication order is also the preferred reading order because later appearances carry earlier relationships forward.[1-3][9-17][57-59]
Although the STEMinist books do not need to be read in order,[57-59] readers will get more context and continuity by reading them in publication order,[1-3][9-17] following this sequence:
| Order | Cover | Title | First published | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
Under One Roof | 2022[1][9-11] | Introduces Mara’s romance and the friendship linking all three books. |
| 2 |
|
Stuck with You | 2022[2][12-14] | Shifts to Sadie’s romance while carrying forward Mara’s relationship. |
| 3 |
|
Below Zero | 2022[3][15-17] | Centers on Hannah after developments in both friends’ relationships, while exploring her earlier history with Ian. |
The STEMinist books are available in a single collection titled Loathe to Love You.[60]
1. Under One Roof

Under One Roof (2022)[1][9-11] follows environmental engineer Mara Floyd after she inherits half a house in Washington, D.C., and moves in with its other owner, corporate lawyer Liam Harding. Their connection to Mara’s late mentor brings conflicting professional loyalties and domestic habits under the same roof.[57]
This book introduces the friendship connecting Mara, Sadie, and Hannah, giving context to Mara’s later appearances in her friends’ stories.[57]
2. Stuck with You

Stuck with You (2022)[2][12-14] follows engineer Sadie Grantham when an elevator failure traps her with Erik Nowak, a man she has spent three weeks avoiding. Flashbacks connect their brief romantic history to tensions between the engineering firms where they work.[58]
Sadie’s story adds a second romance to the series while retaining Mara and Hannah as her support network, with Mara’s appearances building on her earlier relationship.[58]
3. Below Zero

Below Zero (2022)[3][15-17] follows NASA engineer Hannah Arroyo after an Arctic field assignment leaves her stranded in an icy crevasse, with Ian Floyd coming to her aid. Their professional conflict is complicated by an encounter years earlier and their differing expectations about relationships.[59]
Hannah’s story extends the friends’ connections through Ian, Mara’s cousin, while bringing the focus to the third member of the group. Its graduate-school flashbacks supply earlier history without making the whole book a prequel.[59]
Under the Mistletoe series
The Under the Mistletoe series comprises five books, each one written by a different author. Ali Hazelwood wrote the first one, Cruel Winter with You.[61]
1. Cruel Winter with You

Cruel Winter with You (2024)[18] strands pediatric resident Jamie Malek with her childhood best friend’s younger brother, Marc Compton, during a Christmas Eve blizzard. Their uncomfortable reunion draws on years of shared history and a recent falling-out that neither has put behind them.[62]
The series opens with a self-contained reunion romance, using flashbacks within the book to explain the relationship.[62]
Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View series
The Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View series comprises three collections of forty short stories, each one written by a different author. Ali Hazelwood contributed a short story to the third collection, From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi.[5]
1. From a Certain Point of View: Return of the Jedi

Scared Sexy series
The Scared Sexy series comprises six books, each one written by a different author. However, it’s unnecessary to read them in order because they are self-contained.[63-68] Ali Hazelwood contributed Hot for Slayer to the series.[6]
1. Hot for Slayer

Hot for Slayer (2025)[20] follows Ethel, a centuries-old Manhattan vampire, after her slayer adversary Lazlo rescues her and loses his memory. Their uneasy alliance forces her to conceal their past while navigating an attraction complicated by centuries of conflict.[63]
The vampire-and-slayer pairing provides an entry into the series’ supernatural romances, with the characters’ historical encounters explained within the book rather than in earlier installments.[63]
After the End collection
The After the End collection comprises eight novellas, made available to those who pledge to the After the End: A Dystopian Romance Collection project on Kickstarter. However, it’s unnecessary to read them in order, because each establishes the circumstances needed to understand its conflict.[69-76] Ali Hazelwood contributed the novella First to the collection.[7]
1. First

First (2025)[7] follows healer Sofia Kuznetsov after General Gabriel Agard interrupts her wedding by invoking a law granting him authority over her wedding night. Their encounter draws her into a struggle between military leadership and a noble family inside a submerged stronghold.[69]
Its complete romance and introduction to a society divided into Alphas, Betas, and Omegas make it a practical entry point to the collection.[69]
Standalone books
Ali Hazelwood’s standalone books may be read independently, though readers would get more context for recurring characters and relationships by reading them in publication order. Readers should start with The Love Hypothesis, which introduces Olive and Adam before their appearances in other romances.[77-87]
The twelve standalone books’ settings range from scientific workplaces and competitive sports to game development and supernatural societies, with some books sharing characters or developing relationships introduced elsewhere. Reading order matters most within those connections; otherwise, readers can choose by premise.[77-87]
The Love Hypothesis connects to Love, Theoretically and Deep End through Olive and Adam, who appear beyond their own story. Deep End centers on Scarlett and Lukas, who also appear in Problematic Summer Romance.[77][79][84-85]
Not in Love and Problematic Summer Romance share a family and professional circle, with the focus shifting from Rue and Eli to Maya and Conor. Maya is Eli’s younger sister, while Conor is his friend and business partner, so the earlier romance provides background for their connections.[82][85]
Bride and Mate share a supernatural world and recurring characters. Bride follows Misery and Lowe and introduces Serena and Koen, whose relationship becomes the focus of Mate.[81][86]
Therefore, although Ali Hazelwood’s standalone books do not need to be read in order,[77-87] readers will get more context and continuity by reading them in publication order,[21-56] following this sequence:
| Order | Cover | Title | First published | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
The Love Hypothesis | 2021[21-22] | Introduces Olive and Adam before their appearances in other romances. |
| 2 |
|
Love on the Brain | 2022[23-26] | Offers an independent neuroscience romance with no earlier reading needed. |
| 3 |
|
Love, Theoretically | 2023[27-30] | Centers on a new couple while bringing back Olive and Adam. |
| 4 |
|
Check & Mate | 2023[31-33] | Provides an independent entry through competitive chess. |
| 5 |
|
Bride | 2024[34-37] | Introduces the world and relationships later revisited in Mate. |
| 6 |
|
Not in Love | 2024[38-41] | Establishes the family and professional circle behind Problematic Summer Romance. |
| 7 |
|
Two Can Play | 2024[42] | Tells a separate romance between rival game designers. |
| 8 |
|
Deep End | 2025[43-46] | Revisits Olive and Adam and introduces another couple who later recur. |
| 9 |
|
Problematic Summer Romance | 2025[47-50] | Builds on Not in Love, with an additional connection to Deep End. |
| 10 |
|
Mate | 2025[51-54] | Returns to the world and supporting characters introduced in Bride. |
| 11 |
|
Bound | 2025[55] | Offers an independent supernatural romance centered on a manuscript forgery. |
| 12 |
|
Unbound | 2026[56] | Centers on Lilit and Roman. |
Works in sequence
For readers who want the recurring-character connections, The Love Hypothesis is the most useful starting point before Love, Theoretically and Deep End. Readers interested in Maya and Conor will get more background by reading Not in Love before Problematic Summer Romance, while those interested in the Vampyre-and-Were setting should begin with Bride before moving to Mate.[77][79][81-82][84-86]
The remaining books offer more flexible entry points. Love on the Brain works for readers who want a neuroscience and NASA setting, Check & Mate centers on competitive chess, and Two Can Play moves into video-game development. Bound offers a separate supernatural story involving revenants and manuscript forgery, while Unbound centers on another revenant romance without requiring readers to read Bound first.[78][80][83][87]
1. The Love Hypothesis

The Love Hypothesis (2021)[21-22] follows Stanford doctoral candidate Olive Smith, whose improvised fake relationship with professor Adam Carlsen becomes entangled with her research ambitions. Their public arrangement creates opportunities for professional support and an increasingly personal connection.[77]
It introduces the characters whose later appearances connect Love, Theoretically and Deep End.[77]
2. Love on the Brain

Love on the Brain (2022)[23-26] follows neuroscientist Bee Königswasser as she joins a NASA research project alongside Levi Ward, a former graduate-school acquaintance she believes dislikes her. Professional obstacles and their difficult history complicate a collaboration that challenges Bee’s assumptions about him.[78]
Its central project and relationship stand apart from the other books, making its position flexible.[78]
3. Love, Theoretically

Love, Theoretically (2023)[27-30] follows theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway, who supplements precarious teaching work by posing as a paid fake girlfriend. Her professional and private lives collide when a client’s brother turns out to be an influential experimental physicist involved in her faculty interview.[79]
Earlier familiarity with Olive and Adam adds context to their appearance, but Elsie and Jack’s story remains independently understandable.[79]
4. Check & Mate

Check & Mate (2023)[31-33] follows Mallory Greenleaf, who reluctantly returns to chess while supporting her mother and younger sisters. An unexpected victory over world champion Nolan Sawyer draws her into competitive play and a relationship complicated by family responsibilities and her history with the game.[80]
Its separate cast and competitive setting make it an entry point without preliminary reading.[80]
5. Bride

Bride (2024)[34-37] centers on Misery Lark, a Vampyre who enters an arranged marriage with Were Alpha Lowe Moreland. The political alliance also gives her an opportunity to investigate the disappearance of her closest companion, Serena Paris.[81]
It introduces the supernatural society and relationships that become relevant again in Mate.[81]
6. Not in Love

Not in Love (2024)[38-41] follows chemical engineer Rue Siebert after a private equity firm acquires her employer’s founding loan. Her attraction to one of its partners, Eli Killgore, becomes entangled with questions about professional loyalty, research ownership, and personal trust.[82]
It establishes Rue and Eli’s wider circle, giving additional background to Maya and Conor’s story in Problematic Summer Romance.[82]
7. Two Can Play

Two Can Play (2024)[42] follows game designer Viola Bowen when a potential collaboration sends two rival studios to a winter retreat. Working alongside Jesse Andrews forces her to confront their difficult history while they pursue a shared ambition to adapt a beloved fantasy series.[83]
The romance and game-development project are self-contained, so readers can approach it at any point.[83]
8. Deep End

Deep End (2025)[43-46] follows Stanford diver Scarlett Vandermeer as she works through a mental block after a serious injury. Her involvement with swimmer Lukas Blomqvist brings together athletic pressure, research work, and a carefully negotiated intimate relationship.[84]
Familiarity with Olive and Adam adds background, while Scarlett and Lukas later appear in Problematic Summer Romance.[84]
9. Problematic Summer Romance

Problematic Summer Romance (2025)[47-50] follows Maya Killgore to her brother’s Sicilian wedding, where she confronts her feelings for his older friend Conor Harkness. Their age difference and a history of closeness followed by withdrawal complicate the reunion.[85]
Not in Love supplies the most substantial background, while Deep End provides context for a smaller crossover appearance.[85]
10. Mate

Mate (2025)[51-54] follows Serena Paris as threats against her draw her into the protection of Northwest Alpha Koen Alexander. Their connection develops amid pack obligations and tensions surrounding relations between supernatural communities.[86]
Reading Bride beforehand adds context for Serena, Koen, and the circumstances surrounding them without making their romance part of a mandatory bibliography-wide sequence.[86]
11. Bound

Bound (2025)[55] follows art history doctoral student Veronica Mercer, whose document forgeries attract the attention of history professor Victor Ashworth. A lucrative manuscript commission draws her into a dangerous world of immortal revenants and a growing attachment to Victor.[87]
It offers an independent supernatural entry without an established reading dependency on the other titles.[87]
12. Unbound

Unbound (2026)[56] centers on Lilit of Nineveh, an ancient revenant committed to protecting mortals, and Roman Martin, an emergency physician she cannot leave behind. When someone begins hunting Lilit, their attachment conflicts with the obligations that have governed her long existence.[87]
Its central relationship provides a separate entry point, with no requirement to read Bound beforehand.[87]
