1. Long Road to Mercy

Long Road to Mercy (2018)[7] introduces FBI Special Agent Atlee Pine, whose work at the Grand Canyon becomes entangled with a high-level conspiracy. Alongside that case, this novel establishes the defining personal mystery of the series: the childhood abduction of Pine’s twin sister, Mercy.[3]
It also introduces Carol Blum as Pine’s key ally and leaves the Mercy question unresolved.[3]
2. A Minute to Midnight

A Minute to Midnight (2019)[8] moves Pine’s search back to Andersonville, Georgia, where the attack on the twins took place. This novel combines a new murder investigation with Pine’s effort to reconstruct the truth about her parents, Mercy, and the night that shaped her life..[4]
Its discoveries alter the direction of the series and make it a continuation of the first book.[4]
3. Daylight

Daylight (2020)[9] follows Pine while she is on leave and pursuing the Mercy investigation. This book connects her search with John Puller’s case, broadening the thriller plot while continuing the central family storyline.[5]
It advances the questions raised in earlier books, especially the identity of Mercy’s abductor, Mercy’s fate after the kidnapping, and the history surrounding Pine’s parents.[5]
4. Mercy

Mercy (2021)[10] continues from the discoveries in Daylight, with Pine and Blum following Mercy’s trail after her escape from captivity. This novel gives Mercy a parallel role in the series while keeping Pine’s search at the center of the series.[6]
Because it depends on earlier revelations about Vincenzo, the Atkins family, and Pine’s parents, it should be read after the first three books.[6]
