Chronological order
Reading the series in chronological order offers a more linear sense of world history, especially for readers interested in how the vampire Houses, divine politics, and underworld events evolve over time. It can make the progression of the Bloodborn curse, Nyaxia’s influence, and the White Pantheon’s actions feel more immediate and cause-and-effect driven.[2-8]
However, the chronological order comes with tradeoffs. Several books were written to introduce key characters and concepts gradually, and reading them out of publication order can reveal major outcomes or relationships before their intended setup. This is especially true for Six Scorched Roses and Slaying the Vampire Conqueror, which are contextual expansions rather than foundational entries in the main narrative.[3][5]
Therefore, alternatively, the Crowns of Nyaxia books may be read in chronological order, by following this sequence:[9]
| Order | Cover | Title | First published | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() |
Six Scorched Roses | 2023[11] | Its story concludes before Vale and Lilith appear during the later part of The Serpent and the Wings of Night. |
| 2 | ![]() |
The Serpent and the Wings of Night | 2022[10] | Opens the principal timeline, with its later span overlapping the aftermath of Six Scorched Roses. |
| 3 | ![]() |
The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King | 2023[12] | Continues from the ending of The Serpent and the Wings of Night. |
| 4 | ![]() |
Slaying the Vampire Conqueror | 2023[13] | Occurs before Book The Songbird & the Heart of Stone, though its exact position is not established. |
| 5 | ![]() |
The Songbird & the Heart of Stone | 2024[14-15] | Follows Mische after The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King and treats the conquest of Glaea as an earlier event. |
| 6 | ![]() |
The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk | 2025[16-17] | Continues from the ending of The Songbird & the Heart of Stone. |
| 7 | ![]() |
The Lion & the Deathless Dark | 2026[18-19] | Its main narrative occurs more than ten years after the crisis developed in the previous two books. |

Works in sequence
The principal continuity path runs through The Serpent and the Wings of Night, The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King, The Songbird & the Heart of Stone, The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk, and The Lion & the Deathless Dark.[2][4][6-8] Six Scorched Roses and Slaying the Vampire Conqueror tell more self-contained stories, but both provide character and world context that pays off later, so they are recommended parts of the sequence.[3][5]
1. The Serpent and the Wings of Night

The Serpent and the Wings of Night (2022)[10] follows Oraya, a human raised by the Nightborn king Vincent, as she enters the deadly Kejari tournament. Her alliance with the Rishan vampire Raihn introduces the series’ central relationships, political rivalry, and struggle over the House of Night.[2]
2. Six Scorched Roses

Six Scorched Roses (2023)[11] follows Lilith, a dying scientist who bargains with the vampire Vale for blood to cure a plague destroying her town. Its central story is complete on its own, while explaining the relationship and history Vale and Lilith bring into later Nightborn events.[3]
Its conclusion precedes their appearance within the later portion of The Serpent and the Wings of Night.[3]
3. The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King

4. Slaying the Vampire Conqueror

Slaying the Vampire Conqueror (2023)[13] follows Arachessen assassin Sylina as she infiltrates the Bloodborn conqueror Atrius’s army and begins questioning her mission to kill him. This book stands on its own while establishing Glaea, Atrius, Sylina, and tensions between Nyaxia and Acaeja that matter later.[5]
It should be read before The Songbird & the Heart of Stone, which treats the conquest of Glaea as established history.[5]
5. The Songbird & the Heart of Stone

The Songbird & the Heart of Stone (2024)[14-15] follows Mische after she leaves the House of Night and is taken into the underworld passage Morthryn with Asar, the Shadowborn heir. Their search for the remains of Alarus expands the conflict among the vampire Houses, Nyaxia, and the White Pantheon.[6]
Its unresolved ending leads into The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk.[6]
6. The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk

The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk (2025)[16-17] continues Mische and Asar’s story as the boundary between life and death destabilizes. It brings Nightborn, Bloodborn, Shadowborn, Glaean, and divine characters from earlier books into the same expanding crisis.[7]
This book assumes knowledge of The Songbird & the Heart of Stone and establishes the conditions inherited by The Lion & the Deathless Dark.[7]
7. The Lion & the Deathless Dark

The Lion & the Deathless Dark (2026)[18-19] follows Kyrene, the divine warrior known as Vindica Ultis, after a major time jump in the wider war. Her alliance with Septimus draws together the Bloodborn curse, Nyaxia’s empire, Acaeja’s plans, and consequences from the preceding arcs.[8]
Although it centers a new pair, its world, political situation, and divine conflict depend on the earlier books.[8]
