Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016)[5-7] opens the series in 1926, when Newt Scamander arrives in New York with a case of magical creatures.[2]
The screenplay introduces Newt, Tina, Queenie, and Jacob while also establishing the threat of magical violence, Credence Barebone’s powers, and Gellert Grindelwald’s ambitions.[2]
2. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018)[8-10] follows the aftermath of Grindelwald’s capture and escape, moving the story from New York to Europe. Newt is drawn into the search for Credence, while Dumbledore, the Ministry, and Grindelwald’s followers become increasingly important to the central conflict.[3]
This book expands the continuing storyline.[3]
3. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore (2022)[11-13] continues the struggle against Grindelwald and brings Dumbledore’s connection to the conflict into sharper focus. Newt joins a team assembled to disrupt Grindelwald’s plans.[4]
Credence’s identity, the blood troth, and the political stakes of the magical world all develop from earlier events in the series.[4]
