Works in sequence
1. The Witching Hour

The Witching Hour (1990)[10-11] establishes the Mayfair family’s haunted history, the Talamasca’s long observation of the clan, and the dangerous bond between the witches and Lasher.[2]
It introduces Rowan Mayfair and Michael Curry as central characters, while setting up the First Street house, the family legacy, and the supernatural inheritance that drives the rest of the books.[2]
2. Lasher

Lasher (1993)[12-13] begins with the crisis left by The Witching Hour: Rowan missing, Michael recovering, and the Mayfair family trying to understand what has entered the world.[3]
This novel expands the history of Lasher, the Taltos, and the Talamasca’s involvement, turning the family’s inherited haunting into a larger conflict over origin, reproduction, and survival.[3]
3. Taltos

Taltos (1994)[14] Taltos follows the aftermath of Lasher and broadens the sequence beyond the immediate Mayfair household. Rowan, Michael, Mona, Yuri, and Ashlar become central to a wider investigation into the Taltos, the Talamasca conspiracy, and the surviving traces of an ancient nonhuman lineage.[4]
It is the culmination of the original Mayfair-Taltos arc.[4]
4. Merrick

Merrick (2000)[9] shifts the sequence into the connected vampire world while retaining a Mayfair witch at its center. Merrick Mayfair’s gifts, her Talamasca history, and her ancestral magic bring the Mayfair legacy into contact with Louis, David, and Lestat.[6]
This book changes the relationship between the Talamasca, vampires, and Mayfair power.[6]
5. Blackwood Farm

Blackwood Farm (2002)[15] follows Tarquin Blackwood, a young vampire haunted by a spirit that has grown more dangerous since his transformation. Lestat becomes involved, and Merrick Mayfair returns in a major supernatural role.[7]
This novel also brings Mona Mayfair into the vampire strand, making it an important bridge between the Blackwood, Mayfair, Talamasca, and Lestat elements.[7]
6. Blood Canticle

Blood Canticle (2003)[16] continues from the events surrounding Quinn, Mona, Merrick, and Lestat. It links Mona’s transformation to the unresolved Mayfair and Taltos storylines, returning Rowan and Michael to the center of the supernatural conflict.[8]
As the final work in this sequence, it brings together the vampire and Mayfair strands more explicitly than the preceding crossover novels.[8]
