Crowns of Nyaxia series

The Crowns of Nyaxia books, written by Carissa Broadbent,[1] must be read in order, with publication order providing the sequence readers should follow.[7-13] Readers should start with The Serpent and the Wings of Night, which establishes the House of Night, Oraya and Raihn, and the conflicts that drive the later books.[7]

The series moves through several linked character and political arcs rather than following one protagonist throughout. Oraya and Raihn lead the opening Nightborn story, Vale and Lilith and Atrius and Sylina receive more self-contained installments, Mische and Asar lead the next major arc, and Kyrene and Septimus carry the later continuation. Despite these shifts, the consequences accumulate across the series.[7-13]

Publication order

It’s necessary to read the Crowns of Nyaxia books in publication order, by following this sequence:[14]

Order Cover Title First published Notes

2 Book cover of Six Scorched Roses. Six Scorched Roses 2023[16] Introduces Vale and Lilith before they become important to the series.
3 Book cover of The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King. The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King 2023[17] Continues Oraya and Raihn’s story after the Kejari.

Chronological order

Reading the series in chronological order offers a more linear sense of world history, especially for readers interested in how the vampire Houses, divine politics, and underworld events evolve over time. It can make the progression of the Bloodborn curse, Nyaxia’s influence, and the White Pantheon’s actions feel more immediate and cause-and-effect driven.[7-13]

However, the chronological order comes with tradeoffs. Several books were written to introduce key characters and concepts gradually, and reading them out of publication order can reveal major outcomes or relationships before their intended setup. This is especially true for Six Scorched Roses and Slaying the Vampire Conqueror, which are contextual expansions rather than foundational entries in the main narrative.[8][10]

Therefore, alternatively, the Crowns of Nyaxia books may be read in chronological order, by following this sequence:[14]

Order Cover Title First published Notes
1 Book cover of Six Scorched Roses. Six Scorched Roses 2023[16] Its story concludes before Vale and Lilith appear during the later part of The Serpent and the Wings of Night.
2 Book cover of The Serpent and the Wings of Night. The Serpent and the Wings of Night 2022[15] Opens the principal timeline, with its later span overlapping the aftermath of Six Scorched Roses.
3 Book cover of The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King. The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King 2023[17] Continues from the ending of The Serpent and the Wings of Night.
4 Book cover of Slaying the Vampire Conqueror. Slaying the Vampire Conqueror 2023[18] Occurs before Book The Songbird & the Heart of Stone, though its exact position is not established.
5 Book cover of The Songbird & the Heart of Stone. The Songbird & the Heart of Stone 2024[19-20] Follows Mische after The Ashes and the Star-Cursed King and treats the conquest of Glaea as an earlier event.
6 Book cover of The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk. The Fallen & the Kiss of Dusk 2025[21-22] Continues from the ending of The Songbird & the Heart of Stone.
7 Book cover of The Lion & the Deathless Dark. The Lion & the Deathless Dark 2026[23-24] Its main narrative occurs more than ten years after the crisis developed in the previous two books.

War of Lost Hearts series

It is necessary to read the War of Lost Hearts books in chronological order, which coincides with their chronological order, because the central conflicts, political consequences, and character relationships carry across the series. The best starting point is Ashen Son, since it introduces Maxantarius Farlione, the Orders, and the war-torn setting that shapes the later main narrative.[25-28]

War of Lost Hearts is a continuous fantasy sequence rather than a group of standalones. The books follow interconnected conflicts across Ara, Threll, and the Fey world, with Maxantarius Farlione, Tisaanah Vytezic, Nura Qan, Reshaye, and Caduan Iero becoming part of a single escalating narrative. Later books rely on earlier political shifts, magical consequences, imprisonments, alliances, and unresolved wars, so readers should begin with book one and continue in sequence.[25-28]

The War of Lost Hearts books must be read in chronological order, which coincides with their publication order, by following this sequence:[3-6]
