Hades x Persephone Saga series
It is best to read the Hades x Persephone Saga in chronological order because the books form a continuous sequence with paired-perspective novels, overlapping events, and later entries that depend on earlier developments. The best starting point is A Touch of Darkness, since it introduces Persephone, Hades, New Athens, the Underworld, and the central relationship before the saga expands into wider divine conflict.[5-12]
The Hades x Persephone Saga is a continuous mythological romance series. Several books retell or extend the same span of events from different perspectives, especially Hades’s side of developments, first centered on Persephone. Even so, the main story advances through a clear chronology: the relationship begins in A Touch of Darkness, expands through the paired early books, escalates into war, and then reaches its aftermath.[5-12]
Chronological order
The Hades x Persephone Saga is best read in chronological order, with the paired perspective novels placed beside the events they cover, by following this sequence:[5-12]

A Touch of Ruin | 2020[15] | Continues Persephone’s story after the first romance arc. |
| 4 |
|
A Game of Retribution | 2022[16] | Covers the same broad period through Hades’s parallel conflicts. |
| 5 |
|
A Touch of Malice | 2021[17] | Advances the engagement, divine politics, and open conflict. |
| 6 |
|
A Game of Gods | 2023[18] | Runs alongside the war-era events from Hades and wider perspectives. |
| 7 |
|
A Touch of Chaos | 2024[19] | Continues from the major cliffhanger and resolves the war arc. |
| 8 |
|
A Christmas of Chaos | 2025[20] | Follows the main conflict with a later Underworld-set aftermath. |

Publication order
The publication order follows the order in which Scarlett St. Clair released the books and preserves the original reading experience. Therefore, as an alternative, the Hades x Persephone Saga books may be read in publication order, by following this sequence:[21-22]
| Order | Cover | Title | First published | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
A Touch of Darkness | 2019[13] | The original starting point that introduces the world, characters, and central romance. |
| 2 |
|
A Touch of Ruin | 2020[15] | Continues Persephone’s story and advances the main narrative. |
| 3 |
|
A Game of Fate | 2020[14] | Revisits the events of A Touch of Darkness from Hades’s perspective. |
| 4 |
|
A Touch of Malice | 2021[17] | Escalates the stakes with engagement drama, divine politics, and conflict. |
| 5 |
|
A Game of Retribution | 2022[16] | Companion novel covering overlapping events from Hades’s viewpoint. |
| 6 |
|
A Touch of Chaos | 2024[19] | Advances and resolves the central war storyline. |
| 7 |
|
A Game of Gods | 2023[18] | Expands the war-era events and broader cast through Hades’s perspective. |
| 8 |
|
A Christmas of Chaos | 2025[20] | A post-war holiday novella set after the main events of the saga. |

Works in sequence
The core reading experience consists of the main story arc, including the Hades-perspective companion novels that expand key events and character motivations. Together, these books establish the relationship, develop the Underworld setting, and carry the divine conflict through its main resolution.[5-7][23-26]
A Christmas of Chaos is best treated as supplementary for first-time readers because it follows the main conflict and focuses on later domestic, holiday, and aftermath material. It still belongs to the broader saga and contains continuing character material, but it should be read after the main sequence rather than included in the first essential path.[27]
Readers who want the fullest coverage of the world and relationships should include the supplementary work after completing the main saga.[5-7][23-27]
1. A Touch of Darkness

A Touch of Darkness (2019)[13] establishes the saga’s central framework: Persephone living secretly as a mortal student in New Athens, Hades ruling the Underworld, and a binding contract that draws her into his realm. It introduces the principal settings, the divine society, and Persephone’s conflict with Demeter.[5]
This novel also lays the romantic and magical foundations for the later books.[5]
2. A Game of Fate

A Game of Fate (2020)[14] returns to the opening span of the saga from Hades’s side of the story. It follows his bargain with Aphrodite, his discovery of Persephone, and the pressures surrounding divine law, Fate, and the Underworld.[6]
Because it overlaps substantially with A Touch of Darkness, it reads best afterward, adding context rather than replacing the original entry point.[6]
3. A Touch of Ruin

A Touch of Ruin (2020)[15] moves Persephone and Hades beyond their initial bargain into the consequences of public attention, divine interference, and Persephone’s growing power. This book depends on the established relationship and continues several personal and political threads introduced earlier.[7]
It also broadens the saga’s treatment of divine law, mortal vulnerability, and Persephone’s place beside Hades.[7]
4. A Game of Retribution

A Game of Retribution (2022)[16] follows the same general phase as A Touch of Ruin, but from Hades’s perspective and with additional attention to his obligations, Hera’s demands, criminal networks, and wider divine threats. As a companion continuation, it clarifies what Hades is facing while Persephone’s story is unfolding.[8]
This novel also expands plot threads that influence the broader conflict across the series.[8]
5. A Touch of Malice

A Touch of Malice (2021)[17] carries the main sequence into a more openly dangerous stage. Persephone and Hades face resistance to their union, escalating attacks in New Athens, and mounting conflict among gods, demigods, and anti-god forces.[9]
This book draws on the emotional and political developments of earlier installments.[9]
6. A Game of Gods

A Game of Gods (2023)[18] runs alongside the war-era material of A Touch of Malice while widening the viewpoint beyond Persephone alone. Hades remains central, but Dionysus, Ariadne, Theseus, and the larger divine conflict take on greater importance.[10]
This book is most useful when read after A Touch of Malice, since it expands the same stage of the saga’s escalating crisis.[10]
7. A Touch of Chaos

A Touch of Chaos (2024)[19] continues from the upheaval at the end of the preceding war arc and follows Persephone and Hades through the consequences of the Titans’ release, Hades’s captivity, and the conflict with Theseus and Cronos. It is the culminating main-story volume.[11]
This novel relies on the characters, alliances, enemies, and divine tensions established across the earlier books.[11]
8. A Christmas of Chaos

A Christmas of Chaos (2025)[20] takes place after the principal war arc and follows Hades, Persephone, and their circle during a later Christmas and Ascension celebration in the Underworld. It includes several ongoing relationships and aftermath details from the main saga, so it is not the best starting point.[12]
Its function is closer to a post-conflict continuation than to a separate introduction.[12]
Adrian X Isolde
It is necessary to read the Adrian X Isolde books in chronological order, which coincides with their publication order. The best starting point is King of Battle and Blood, since it introduces Isolde, Adrian, the political conflict between Lara and Revekka, and the magical history that continues into the second book.[28-29]
The Adrian X Isolde books form a continuous romantic fantasy sequence rather than a set of standalone books. The second book follows from the first, with Isolde and Adrian already married, ruling Revekka, and dealing with unresolved conflicts established earlier. Therefore, readers should begin with book one, because the later story presupposes knowledge featured in the first book.[28-29]
The Adrian X Isolde books must be read in chronological order, which coincides with their publication order, by following this sequence:[30]
| Order | Cover | Title | First published | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 |
|
King of Battle and Blood | 2021[31] | Introduces the marriage, kingdoms, magic, and central conflict. |
| 2 |
|
Queen of Myth and Monsters | 2022[32] | Continues from Isolde’s rule in Revekka and the magical threat. |

1. King of Battle and Blood

King of Battle and Blood (2021)[31] opens the series with Princess Isolde of Lara forced into marriage with Adrian, the vampire king of Revekka, as part of her kingdom’s surrender.[28]
This book establishes the political tension between the human and vampire realms, Isolde’s uneasy place in Adrian’s court, and the magical conflict surrounding the crimson mist, Ravena, and Isolde’s connection to a past life.[28]
2. Queen of Myth and Monsters

Queen of Myth and Monsters (2022)[32] continues the story after Isolde becomes queen of Revekka and tries to understand her former life as Yesenia. This book builds on the first novel’s unresolved threats, including Ravena’s stolen grimoire, hostile magic, court instability, and the consequences of Isolde and Adrian’s bond.[29]
It expands the conflict into plague, monstrous transformations, divine interference, and war over Lara.[29]
Fairy Tale Retelling
The Fairy Tale Retelling books do not need to be read in order, though the publication order provides the clearest default route through their shared world.[3-4] Readers should start with Mountains Made of Glass, which introduces the Enchanted Forest through Gesela’s bargain with the Thorn Prince.[33-34]
Each book follows a different woman and a separate romance involving magical bargains and curses. The Enchanted Forest and Glass Mountains connect the settings of the two books, but Samara’s story does not depend on knowing what happens to Gesela. The books offer complete individual stories rather than consecutive parts of an unresolved plot.[33-34]
Therefore, it’s unnecessary to read the Fairy Tale Retelling books in order.[33-34] However, they may be read in publication order by following this sequence:[3-4]
| Order | Cover | Title | First published | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | ![]() |
Mountains Made of Glass | 2023[3] | Introduces Gesela and the Thorn Prince through a bargain involving his hidden name. |
| 2 | ![]() |
Apples Dipped in Gold | 2024[4] | Follows a different couple on a quest for a wish-granting golden apple. |

1. Mountains Made of Glass

Mountains Made of Glass (2023)[3] follows Gesela after she is banished to the Thorn Prince’s realm and offered a chance to win her freedom. She has seven days to discover his true name, with every incorrect guess threatening to extend her imprisonment.[33]
This book establishes the shared forest setting through Gesela’s self-contained romance, introducing magical bargains and transformations without leaving her story dependent on another installment.[33]
2. Apples Dipped in Gold

Apples Dipped in Gold (2024)[4] follows Samara as a debt to the Prince of Nightshade draws her into a search for a wish-granting golden apple. Accompanied by a talking fox, they travel through the Enchanted Forest while Samara’s abusive brothers pursue her.[34]
This separate romance expands the setting into other fae realms without requiring familiarity with Gesela or the Thorn Prince’s bargain.[34]
Blood of Lilith series
The Blood of Lilith series currently comprises two books.[1]

1. Terror at the Gates

Terror at the Gates was originally published on July 8, 2025.[35]
In Terror at the Gates, Lilith Leviathan survives after being banished from one of Eden’s five ruling families, using forbidden female-only magic to steal under the oppressive surveillance of a church that silences women. Her crimes attract attention from Eden’s elite, all seeking control of her power.
When a cursed blade kills a buyer, Lilith seeks help from Zahariev Zareth. Their alliance forces both to confront the origins of the blade and the hidden forces shaping Eden’s magical hierarchy. As resistance builds and allegiances shift, their investigation puts them in direct conflict with powers determined to preserve the status quo.
2. Coiled at the Roots

Coiled at the Roots will be published on March 2, 2027.[36]
Standalone book
Scarlett St. Clair wrote a single standalone book, titled When Stars Come Out.[1]

1. When Stars Come Out

When Stars Come Out was originally published in July 2022.[37]
In When Stars Come Out, Anora Silby moves to a small town, hoping to leave her troubled past behind and start fresh at a new school. However, on her first day, she encounters a restless spirit and accidentally unleashes a power she’s tried to keep hidden.
Anora’s ability to see the dead and transform their souls into coins has always been a burden, one she desperately wants to keep secret. But when a classmate turns up dead and the missing coin is linked to the murder, Anora must act. Under the threat of exposure, Anora must race against time to recover the coin and protect those she loves.
